Back when I, Elastigirl, was crimefighting solo, I could get in an early Mysore practice every day. Even though I’m the most flexible woman in the universe, it’s still nice to get a new pose once in a while, you know? But after giving birth to Violet, Dash, and Jack Jack I found that my priorities had shifted into something like this:
1. Keep children alive
17. Shampoo occasionally
23. Get to the shala and lay down in savasana
As much as my yoga practice meant to me, I had a new practice now. I found myself shifting my weight and pressing down into all four corners of my feet while I waited for the toast to pop up, or finding new ways to grip the steering wheel, sometimes pulling and sometimes pushing, as I turned into the school parking lot.
Or, during bath time, bending the kids’ action figures into a satisfying urdhva dhanurasana.
And after giving my kids several hundred baths a lightbulb finally went off over my head and yogabeans! was born.
